Questions and Answers

Can I use a semi acoustic archtop guitar with an electric guitar amplifier.?

Q) I am about to buy semi acoustic guitar and already own a small (15w) Marshall electric guitar amplifier. Are they reasonably compatable?

A) You can use it, it just won't sound acoustic. If you are looking for a true acoustic sound out of an amplifier then you need an acoustic amp. But judging by the fact that your only running a 15 watt amp anyway, it'll work fine. You can run any guitar through any amp, it's just a matter of the sound your looking for. If it's just for you to practice on or play with a couple friends you'll be fine.

Is it possible to adapt any acoustic guitar to play via amplifier?

A) Yes. If you call into your local musical instrument shop, just ask to see their range of "Pick ups" and I'm sure they'll advise you on which one to buy for your particular guitar. There are lots of different types to choose from but without knowing exactly what instrument you have , I can't really advise on which one you should use. Sorry I can't be more specific.

i have a yamaha cd player/amplifier in box system, which has a subwoofer input. i purchased an Acoustic Energy

A) try the headphone output on yamaha, to run to speaker system turn the volume up.

Will an acoustic guitar amplifier work well with an acoustic bass?

Q) I have a Michael Kelly Dragonfly 4-String Frettless and I want to buy an amp for it. I also play acoustic guitar. Can I just buy one amp, like a Fender Acoustosonic? Or will playing an acoustic bass through an acoustic guitar amp burn it out?

A) If you are playing at home, by yourself. Personally, I wouldn't want to try to run an acoustic bass through these speakers. There is a LOT more bottom end in an acoustic bass than in a "traditional" electric bass guitar. If you are going to go with one amp, I'd look for one with at least 2 ten inch speakers. If you want to get a guitar amp for some of the effects, that's understandable, but I think this 1x8 with 1x6 is going to be overwhelmed. Try it with your bass in a store before you buy it. Need a model and specs for OLD Power Acoustic amp amplifier!?

Q) I got an old Power Acoustik amp, (at least 5 years old), from my friend and I don't have a model or specs for it. Its all silver like their AB/D series but it's not that. All thats on the amp is a 10-digit serial number. I'm looking for the model and specs for it. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

A) I would try and contact them. http://www.poweracoustik.com/pa2006/CONTACT.htm Maybe take a couple of pictures so they can see what the amplifier looks like to help them identify the product. I hope this helps.

What type of music amplifier should I buy for my acoustic-electric ukulele?

Q) I want something small, that has some neat effects for me to have fun and mess around with. Price is only real limitation.

A) I'm a long time guitarist and a uke player of about 2 1/2 years. The following web site has a ton of info where you can search out the answers to your question. What did you get? One of those Applause ukes? Good choice, if you did? On my uke..I use a small pre amp and then run it into a PA, so I'm not much help as far as small amps...but check out the web site...it should help. http://www.4thpeg.com/

Do Acoustic Electric Guitars work OK with regular amplifiers?

Q) I would think an acoustic guitar amp would work perfectly, but I'm looking for something 'not so' perfect or normal in sound quality if you know what I mean, something more metal in nature.

A) Try it with a regular electric guitar amp..it'll sound more metal if thats what your looking for

What's the name of guitars that look like electric guitars but don't use amplifiers yet not an acoustic guitar

Acoustic guitar repair.... An unusual ringing on the high E string?

Q) I purchased an electric Acoustic guitar about a week ago. I originally experienced fret buzz but I immediately had it fixed. Now I am experiencing a high pitch ringing noise on the higher E string, It only occurs when fretting the note, or by strumming hard. The sound occurs whether I'm plugged in or not... but if the guitar is plugged in.... the sound becomes much more evident. The sound is similar to the sound of a slight high pitch un-natural ringing.... similar to what you would expect if your mic was up to loud or to close to your amplifier. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to help me cure this problem? And by the way.... I've been playing for a while, so I know that it isn't my hand positioning that is causing the problem... any tips?

A) since you just had it fixed for fret buzz my guess is you are getting some sort of harmonic ring from one of the frets. Does the high pitch change as you move finger position? ALSO... I have noticed that SOME guitart greate freaky non harware related harmoic ringing.... I recorded an album once and noticed that when I played a certain chord it make a sound eerily similar to that of an organ..who knows! I would have it checked out by the person who repaired it the first time... also as a preventive measure... buy a guitar humidifier... they work wonders at keeping the guitars neck from warping!

What is the best type of amplifier for an amateur guitarist?

Q) It will be my first time buying an electric guitar. I have an acoustic guitar but it's left behind in my country. So what do I need to know when buying a new/2nd hand electric guitar and amplifier...ESPECIALLY the amp. What should I be looking for in an amp if I am an amateur who can only practise and play with a set of headphones on (as I am in a quiet neighbourhood :()

A) I would recommend the Fender Mini-Deluxe Amp. I own this amp and it is a nice little amp that has a headphone jack like you want and is only around $30-40. Google it if your interested.

What brand of amplifier is better ?

Q) Acoustic or performance tech.

A) One thing that seperates the men from the boys in amplifiers is being CEA-2006 compliant. An amp/Head Unit with this certificate means the amp/HU was voluntarily submitted by the manufacturer to the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) for testing using a standard method for all amplifiers or HUs. Passing this testing means the amp produces the watts RMS stated in the specs. This is a big plus for consumers as a lot of manufacturers lie about there ratings just to make a sale. You know exactly what your getting from a certified amp, no guess work. More info here http://spkrbox1.spaces.live.com

should I buy a big bodied, acoustic Bass guitar if I want to learn to play bass?

Q) I want to play bass guitar and I want to play without an amplifier.

A) If you like them! Most people play electric, but acoustic bass guitars can sound really nice (although to play in a band, you might still need to amplify!) Of course, if you're looking to go acoustic, the best sound comes from the classical upright bass, which is more challenging, but also a very rewarding instrument. If you're dead set against amplification (which is far and away the most simple route to a big sound) then the bigger the sound box and soundboard, the better the bass response will be and the louder the instrument.
